I like this video of John Green talking about one of his 'early works', My Great Mini Book (It's Wonderful Amazing). It's both hilarious and oddly insightful about what makes a good story. I can't remember where my own mini books are stored, though I do vividly remember writing them. If I ever manage to track them down, I will let you know!
The Heart at War is nearly finished! There are a few small sections which I'll rewrite for the last time before sending the whole manuscript off to my editors at Doubleday. It's been a very busy couple of weeks rereading, editing and polishing the manuscript, a stage that I really enjoy but which can be intense and doesn't always leave room for much else. So while this is good news, and something I wanted to let you know about, I haven't been able to think up a topic for a blog post this week. Instead, I thought I'd share these pictures unearthed from the depths of the early 1990s: These made me laugh; I found them while I was looking through some old photos at the weekend. I'm not sure what I'm 'writing' in this picture. Of course, since I look about 4 years old, there is a strong possibility that I'm not actually writing at all. But I do remember making a book called 'Le House'. The concept was simple - pictures of houses with 'le house' underneath because I couldn't spell 'the'. But clearly, from my expression, this simplicity didn't stop the text from being very profound.
